  • Cotton is a very drought-tolerant crop and uses about the same amount of water as other major crops.
  • The vast majority of the cotton globally is produced without irrigation (water from just rainfall), and of the remaining cotton, much of that irrigation is just used to supplement rainfall during dry periods.
  • New irrigation systems and strategies used today, particularly in the U.S., are more water efficient.
